Robert Larson, a senior at Papillion-La Vista South High School, was recently selected as one of two student delegates from Nebraska to participate in the 52nd annual United States Senate Youth Program. The United States Senate Youth Program is a national initiative to provide a yearly opportunity for talented young leaders to deepen their understanding of the American political system and strengthen their resolve to pursue careers in public service. This program is a prestigious opportunity for 104 students, two from each state, Washington D.C. and the Department of Defense Education Activity. The program, which will be held in Washington D.C. from March 8-15, 2014, gives student delegates the opportunity to see various areas of government in work such as a major policy addresses by senators. Delegates will also have the opportunity to attend educational tours, meet government officials, participate in a meeting with a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court and hear about the inter-workings of the federal government. For being chosen as one of the delegates Robert will receive a $5,000 college scholarship to go towards his undergraduate studies.
